NOTABLE MISSIONS
While the June 16, 1943, mission to Bougainville and Buka is rightfully the defining mission in the history of the Eager Beavers, there are a number of missions in their history, as a crew and individually, that stand out to me as worthy of note.
Two immediate examples: the missions of November 20, 1942, and January 16/17, 1943.
The first was a mission to Rabaul, prior to the Eager Beavers' formation, that marked Zeamer's first combat mission in the left seat (an interesting story in itself), rather than as copilot. The second was the first mission together of the core personnel who would become the Eager Beavers. Neither mission proved straightforward, both involved medals for the whole crew, and both proved significant in the crew's history for different reasons.
This series kicks off with the first of those two, the November 20, 1942, mission that made the Eager Beavers as a crew possible. If there are missions you'd like to see me cover, please let me know in the Guestbook.
